I came across a feature on this site in the most recent installment of Eye, which is a great publication albeit pricey if you don’t live in Europe. Decodeunicode.org is the web home of a project dedicated to meeting the “requirements of global communication” by mapping out as many characters in as many languages (including non-latin languages) as possible. It’s a first step towards the actual globalization of digital typography. The site itself is pretty out of control and quite easy to get lost in. I’m pretty excited to see where this project goes in the future and how successful it really is.
Also, they have ill posters depicting all character sets currently available for computers.
