Gary Hustwit, the mastermind behind Helvetica, has recently announced a brand new project called Objectified. Objectified and Helvetica have many similiarities in how Hustwit is approaching its production. Both subjects were approached by Hustwit as a novice– he was by no means a typographer or even a graphic designer prior to making Helvetica. Same rules apply in Objectified. This, of course, is sure to be a hit as we all know Hustwit can sure make a film as we saw Helvetica’s run at New York’s IFC extended not only once, but two times. I’ll be waiting…

Pentragram recently completed the identity for a new high-end burger chain called Bobby’s Burger Palace. The store is opening on Long Island in the Smith Haven Mall, lead by celebrity chef Bobby Flay. As usual they don’t fail to disappoint with their clean, typography and cleaver use of color. The chain is opening sometime this summer.

Bobby’s Burger Palace is one of many of the new up and coming high-end burger chains. Somehow people now find it necessary to pay too much for a staple food, ever perpetuating the cycle of ‘culture.’

Ok so I know it is kind of old news at this point, but in the wake of one of the best movies I have ever seen I thought I would talk a little bit about some of the aspects that made this movie so mesmerizing.

1. Hardly an CGI: mainstream movies, and especially superhero movies are so saturated with CGI that even things that are real start to look plastic: case and point Superman.

2. Heath Ledger: put on the acting performance of his career. Many people would argue that Brokeback Mountain was better, but the fact that I knew ahead of time, and still could barely tell that he was the Joker is pretty incredible. He’s come a long way since A Knight’s Tale, that’s all I can say.

Top 5 Joker Scenes

1. “I’m going to make this pencil disappear.” Need I say more.
2. Walking away from the exploding hospital in a nurses outfit. Unreal.
3. Hanging his head out the window of the police car, hair blowing in the wind (see above).
4. The scene of him sitting in the jail cell, surrounded by chaos, and he sits perfectly calm on the bench.
5. The scene where is hanging upside down and Christopher Nolan swivels the camera around so it looks like he is right-side-up.

It’s not hard to understand why this movie has been continuously breaking records. If you haven’t already seen it… what the hell are you waiting for?

Post your favorite scenes below!

You may have heard of the technology genius/humanitarian activist named Nicholas Negroponte for a few reasons. A.) Because he predicted the future of computing 24 years ago, B.) He started the MIT Media Lab, which has since developed some of the greatest innovations in technology in recent history, C.) He has created one of the greatest humanitarian efforts to supply third world countries with laptops for children’s education, or D.) Any of his incredibly visionary novels.

You may or may not however, have heard of his new rival in the space, intel. Intel has decided to create the classmate pc a device that not only uses the same technology that they helped develop for Negroponte’s machine, but sporting a very similar look as well. When I say very similar… I mean Intel’s product designers tried really hard to rip of the far superior Fuse Project design, created by Yves Bahar.

Recently Negroponte was on 60 minutes and told cbs what he thinks about intel and their approach.

Have you ever seen Wild Wild West? Ever horribly disappointed by it’s lack of a cohesive plot and painfully dated soundtrack? I know I was. One thing in that movie that slightly redeems itself, is it’s set production and design. Another one, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. These movies were designed on top of a new movement called Steampunk. Steampunk is defined by taking industrial revolution era technology and applying it to modern technology. For example, try designing a computer simply with steam power, brass, mahogany, and rivets.

Following these rules precisely, of course, wouldn’t be all that interesting, I mean with today’s nano technology of motherboards and circuits, how do you design these things with rudimentary tools like hammers and wrenches. So Steampunk bends the rules a little bit. With the exception of hollywood movies, it is pretty much all underground, DIY production too. I have compiled some interesting Steampunk photos and resources, all I know is I really want that brass trimmed keyboard.

Steampunk has even broken into the fashion scene:
When you think of trains, parking garages, and factories, beautiful is not usually the first thing that comes to mind. Well, apparently you have never seen the photography of Branislav Kropilak. Growing up and studying in places like the Czech Republic and Bratslavia have clearly given him a compelling world view.

His work his breathtaking, he takes images of industrial landscapes that most people wouldn’t bat an eye at and transforms them into these rich, eye-catching masterpieces of graphical illusion. When you view his work on billboards, it is hard to say whether he has taken a photo of a billboard or has cleverly reused the Dark Side of the Moon cover.

I am amazed by the light and symmetry in his photographs; he has clearly created a style that is all his own.
Not to say that their latest spring and summer lines weren’t great, but their new fall line utilizes the more subdued fall palette; browns, maroon, olive green, which are all colors I find can give you that stylish look without looking like a 14 year old who buys all of his clothes at Urban Outfitters.

Check out the full collection here: www.cr8tiverecreation.com. Or at some of their fine retailers.
