This is a pretty phenomenal talk from 1984 where Nicholas Negroponte, founder of One Laptop Per Child and MIT’s Media Lab discusses predictions of the future touch screen interfaces, teleconferencing and even some of the early stages of what lead to One Laptop Per Child.
The accuracy at which he predicts the technology of the future is mind-boggling. He is talking about pressure sensitive touch screen displays, something that still hasn’t even been perfected today. He makes a total of four predictions, and 3 of them are right on. You can read more about him here: http://www.ted.com/index.php/speakers/view/id/38 and if you want to read something amazing, check out the 1995 novel, Being Digital in which he further discusses the future of computers and micro technology with an accuracy rarely replicated by other inventors and idealists. And also, if you haven’t heard about One Laptop Per Child, it is a project that Negroponte started with intention of giving every child in developing countries a laptop to better develop reading and writing skills. The way it works is, when you purchase a laptop for $200, you receive one, and the other is given to a child in need.

In addition to a phenomenal cause, he has some really great designers on board, Yves Behar designed the computer. And Pentagram came thru to design the elegant website.
Cheers.
